“Three-Free” Nail Polish

I absolutely love nail polish. My nails are never bare and I try to change my polish almost as often as I change my outfits. However, I can’t pretend I haven’t heard all the commotion about harsh, harmful chemicals that are found in most of my favorite brands. Although I did shed some tears over this fact, I decided that it’s time to quit cold turkey -- I need to break up with these abusive brands and move on to natural brands that are safe and still look gorgeous on my nails.

Hello, three-free nail polishes!

“Three-free” means these brands are free of dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene and formaldehyde, all of which are detrimental to health and highly toxic. Beware of these chemicals and avoid them at all costs.

That being said, I’ve found that there are plenty of fish in the sea! I’ve come across some adorable (and affordable!) water-based brands of nail polish so that I can kick my old brands to the curb.

NARS Nail Polish - A little bit on the pricey side, but if you’re willing to fork over the dough, NARS follows all of the makeup color trends of the seasons and is guaranteed to be three-free. $15 on Amazon or $17 at www.narscosmetics.com

No-Miss Nail Polish - In addition to being three-free, these nail polishes are made using earth minerals and naturally derived substances. Did I mention they’re also vegan? $7 on Amazon, $8 on www.nomiss.com

Priti NYC Nail Polish – They come in glossy, seasonal colors that are flattering to any skin tone! Also, if you have a daughter, they have a kid’s line called Priti in Pink Princess with colors that are chosen by Kim D’Amato’s 8-year-old daughter. $10.50 to $12.25 on Amazon

Other great three-free brands:

Butter London

My Earth

China Glaze (my personal fav)

Milani

Finger Paints

Hard Candy

Orly

LA Girl

E.L.F.

Beauty Without Cruelty

Will you ladies make the switch with me?
