Freshen Up For Fall

When we think of medical aesthetic centers, various procedures come to mind. From laser hair removal to tanning, most consumers feel that they have a fairly good handle on what treatments are offered and what they entail. What one may fail to realize is that many of these centers offer fixes for everyday life, including seemingly mild annoyances that, if left untreated, could turn into a more serious issue. With the onset of Fall, don’t get lost in the hustle and bustle of back-to-school or back-to-work mode before getting a chance for rejuvenation and renewal. Below, Mike Sendogan, Clinical Director of LaserTouch Soho, provides insight into popular everyday treatments for women, and addresses common treatment FAQs.

Under Eye Circle Treatment

Are you one of those women who wake up every day with undereye circles, regardless of the amount of sleep you got the night before? It maybe more serious than you think. A common reason for the appearance of under eye circles is tear trough deformity, which is often mistaken for discoloration. “Many women come to us for this treatment, complaining that makeup and additional sleep don’t do much to alleviate the problem. Sometimes this is caused by tear trough, which deflects light, creating a shadow, and can be attributed to genetics and aging. Before recently, there were limited options for treatment. However, we now offer a minimally invasive procedure using dermal fillers, and the results are quite extraordinary,” explains Mike.

FAQs

· How does the procedure feel? During the treatment, you will feel minimal to no discomfort as a result of cream or injections used to numb the area.

· What filler is used during this procedure? It varies depending on where the treatment is done.

· How long does the procedure take? 15 minutes.

· How long will the results last? Up to one year.

· What are the side effects? Mild redness and swelling and temporary, minor bruising are all possible, but any side effects should subside within hours.

Sweat Reduction

Sweat is not an easy topic for most women to discuss, but it is the cause of many a fashion malfunction. Perspiration is normal, and is regulated by the autonomic nervous system. In most people, sweat is manageable and expected in given situations, but in individuals who suffer from hyperhidrosis (2-3% of Americans), the creation of sweat is excessive. Mike says, “Most people who suffer from hyperhidrosis don’t even realize it; they expect that they are sweating due to changes in hormone levels, which is possible, but not always the case. We offer a treatment to alleviate hypersentive sweating with Botox. The Botox disables sweat glands in areas that are pinpointed as problems.”

FAQs

· How does the procedure feel? With creams used to numb the area, the injections will only be slightly uncomfortable. Injections are administered directly to problem areas; for instance, the underarm.

· How long does the procedure take? 20-30 minutes.

· How long until I see results? Underarm sweating will be decreased by 90% within 48 hours and the full effect will be felt within one week.

· How long will the results last? From six to twelve months.

· What are the side effects? Avoid heavy exercise within the first several hours of receiving the treatment, but normal activity can begin immediately after. Minimal bruising may occur at the injection site, but will fade in a couple of days.

Migraine Headaches

A recent study by the World Health Organization revealed that an estimated 303 million people worldwide suffer from migraine headache pain almost daily. What’s more, some people don’t realize they are suffering from migraines and attribute frequent discomfort to other factors, like allergies. If you are experiencing chronic headaches, Mike says that there is a procedure that can work for you. “Botox injections are frequently used to decrease pain from migraine headaches. This use was discovered accidentally, but has proven to be a popular treatment for those who experience chronic, continuous pain.” Although not yet FDA-approved, Dr. Vafa offers this as a viable treatment for migraines. This procedure is currently in Phase III of clinical studies.

FAQs

· How does the procedure feel? Creams and injectable numbing agents are used to treat the affected area, so discomfort is kept to a minimum.

· How long does the procedure take? Treatment time varies depending on areas of pain and sensitivity.

· How does it work? This procedure is supported by the fact that Botox reduces muscle tension and creates less strain on the nervous system, and can also prevent migraines from developing.

· How long will the results last? Results vary from patient to patient.
