A Glass of Wine a Day May Keep Wrinkles at Bay

While most recommendations from health experts involve cutting out indulgences that are bad for us (like fast food and tanning beds), there is one piece of advice I have always eagerly embraced: Drink one glass of red wine a day to protect against heart disease. As it turns out, I may have even more reason to celebrate. Sipping vino might also keep me looking young!

You may have noticed an ingredient called resveratrol popping up in magazine headlines and television commercials in recent years. That is because more and more companies are catching on to the potential of this powerful antioxidant. Resveratrol, found in red grapes used to make wine, protects the body from free radical damage caused by sun exposure, smoking and pollution. Free radicals interfere with the skin’s production of collagen and elastin, which leads to dull, wilted skin. But when incorporated into topical products or taken as a supplement, this antioxidant has been shown to slow the appearance of wrinkles and fight signs of aging. A Harvard Medical School study recently found this miracle ingredient to be one of the most effective anti-aging agents on the market and possibly the key to the French population’s longevity (people in France are known to enjoy their fair share of wine).

Caudalie was the first skin care line to patent resveratrol over a decade ago, and this French company has continued to be the leading innovator. We recommend trying the Vinexpert Riche Radiance Day Cream SPF 10. Not only will this product leave skin firmer, but pearlizers and skin-reflecting pigments will create a radiant glow. Antioxidants are also known to improve the effectiveness of sunscreens when worn together.

So, in addition to enjoying a glass of wine with dinner, look for resveratrol on the label when purchasing skin care products or try a daily supplement.
