If you’re not getting enough nutrients in your diet, try adding a supplement. Essential fatty acids, Vitamin C and zinc all have complexion-boosting properties.
Jump Start Your Day
For as long as I can remember, breakfast has been touted by my mom (and the experts!) as the most important meal of the day. Think of it as a healthy, daily kick-start, providing your body with both nutrients and fuel. One doctor even recommends eating two breakfasts, splitting it up so we eat half before our morning workout and half afterward. Not only does this help with portion control but it sets the tone for a regular eating pattern.
Some tips to make the most of your breakfasts:
- Prepare your morning meal the night before to avoid excuses
- Omit sugar in any form
- Choose whole fruits versus fruit juice
- Stay away from fast food
- Think simple and clean
Be sure to include some “superfoods” in a few of your weekly breakfasts. These superfoods — like steel cut oats, Greek yogurt, green tea, raw nuts and seeds, as well as berries — are linked to a decreased risk of developing various diseases.
Try whipping up this filling, protein-packed smoothie and grab an ounce of nuts for a post-workout snack filled with healthy fat.
Breakfast Smoothie
6 ounces of low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 scoop of whey protein powder
1/2 cup of berries (add more fruit if desired)
