Look Glam in Glasses
It seems great pair of glasses makes an awesome accessory these days. Personally, I hate wearing my glasses and I know I am not the only one. Much to my doctor’s chagrin, I hardly ever wear them, but when I do, I try to adjust my makeup to properly accentuate my eyewear. For those of you who are actually good about wearing your glasses – real or faux – here are a few makeup tips to compliment your spectacular specs:
First, be aware there is a fine line between overdoing it and playing it too safe, which can result in hiding your best features. With that in mind, if you do have prescription lenses, a good rule of thumb is to cater your makeup to your condition. If you are nearsighted, your eyes tend to appear smaller to others through the lenses. Apply thicker top liner with a light bottom liner, followed by mascara only on your top lashes. The less amount of makeup you wear on your bottom eyelids, the bigger your eyes will appear. For those with farsighted vision, I envy you because in your case, less is more. Keep your liner light, making sure to evenly blend. The last thing you want is your glasses to magnify your mistakes. Adjust your liner thickness to match that of the frame. A thick frame requires thicker eyeliner to help draw attention where it should be – on your gorgeous greens. For thinner frames, keep eyeliner soft and light.
When applying eyeshadow, stick with neutral shades, leaving the bold and bright colors for your lips. To take your look into night, go with a neutral shadow but try some shimmer on both your top and bottom lids to add an extra pop. Follow with darker or smudged liner and mascara as needed. Also, keep in mind your frames will not only be drawing attention to your eyes but also to your brows. Be sure to keep brows neat and defined. Pluck any strays and fill in any sparse spots with a brow pencil a shade lighter than your hair color.
I can’t say I’ll be better about wearing my glasses, but it is comforting to know my makeup will now look fabulous when I do!
