Peek-A-Boo Blouses
How do you feel about sheer blouses? This forward fashion might seem difficult to translate from runway to street, but it is possible to sport this trend tastefully. That’s good news for those of us who aren’t runway models, don’t frequent wild music festivals, or want to avoid arrest for indecent exposure because the soft, feminine and seductive qualities of these fabrics are so enticing.
Here are some tips on buying and wearing this style:
- When purchasing such an item, make certain you have something you can confidently wear underneath. That may mean adding a few bucks to your buy, but it’s worth it if it means the difference between wearing it and stashing it away for a few years until you finally surrender it to charity.
- As far as color, you can choose nude or a pastel, or you can play up some contrast by choosing a bold color. My roommate wears her lacy, neutral top with a coral chemise underneath. I wear my gauzy bolero over a floral dress.
- Your most demure and versatile option is a chemise or, if you can find the right cut, a t-shirt. Make sure the cuts compliment each other. Some tops look awkward underneath, whether it’s because of fighting necklines or sleeve lengths that just disagree.
- If you’re feeling daring, wear a lacey bralette or a bandeau. Many bralettes will offer more support and coverage. However, if you are comfortable with it, opt for a bandeau. The cut is fairly benign, so it’s easily paired with most blouses and offers a tasteful amount of coverage. Avoid your regular bra – though it’s probably comfortable and provides the most coverage and support, it will probably just look like a bra.
- Wear with confidence. As a general rule, you won’t look good in something you’re not confident in, and that especially applies to this edgy trend. If you’re constantly adjusting or trying to cover up, you’ll lose the care-free, sexy vibe that your blouse so generously affords.
