Apply body oil as soon as you get out of the shower to help lock in moisture; it is also a great way to soothe skin irritations.
Tips to Thrift
To many, thrift stores can be daunting. There are miles of clothing racks, mountains of bags and purses; and to top it all off, most of it is junk. However, I assure you, fashion-forward thrift shoppers are not a myth! You too can augment your wardrobe with economic efficiency if you can sift through the massive mess. Here are some basic tips for uncovering your thrifty treasures:
- Be patient. You may have to spend a lot of time searching and sorting before you find one perfect piece. You might not find anything at all. That’s ok. Try again another day.
- Have something in mind. Are you looking for a sheer blouse or a pair of black shorts? Are you trying for a certain aesthetic? Use these ideas to guide your search so you’re not fumbling aimlessly through an ocean of blouses – that said, don’t pass up that fantastic cardigan because it’s not on your list. Sometimes, the best finds find you.
- Use sight and touch. Speaking of navigating that ocean of blouses, your eyes aren’t the only sensory organs benefiting your search. As you peruse the racks, look for color and patterns that appeal to you while feeling for pleasing textures. Don’t forget to look for wear and damage.
- Look outside your size and department. Most thrift stores are not organized incredibly well. Sizes and items are frequently miscategorized or simply migrate from their proper place. Not to mention, you probably won’t find a billowy blouse or oversized sweater among the small sizes.
- Be honest. Purchase items you are going to wear. Are you really going to hem those pants? Are you sure those high-waist suede shorts aren’t too daring for you?
- Fall in love. Whether it’s a pair of penny loafers, an authentic vintage designer purse, or even a fabulous faux fur jacket (true story), I can almost guarantee that as soon as you score, you will be hooked.
