The DIY Bride: Hair and Makeup Looks that Dazzle

Every bride deserves to look and feel like a queen on her wedding day; however, not every bride has the budget of a queen. Do it yourself hair and makeup looks have increased significantly in popularity in the last few years, with YouTube tutorials abound and products at our fingertips that take the hassle out of the process. Here, Gocha Hawkins, celebrity hairstylist, makeup artist, and owner of Gocha Salon, delivers three show stopping hair and makeup looks that are easy enough to pull off yourself, and still make you feel like the queen that you are.

The Art of Improvement

With my classes over, along with a move into a new apartment, I have been setting some new goals for the next few months. With the time off from school, I will be spending my extra hours whipping my life into shape. My top three goals are to implement a stronger organization system, as well as to exercise regularly and start eating more healthy and nutritious meals.

How To Dine Out the Healthy Way

Living in a city rich with food culture, it’s hard to resist trying a new restaurant (or five!) each week. While it’s easier and a lot more fun to have someone else cook for you, eating out as often as I do is not exactly healthy, unless you know which choices are the correct ones to make. Using the 80/20 rule, where I eat healthy most of the time and give myself room to splurge a little bit, I am able to maintain my weight while enjoying the great restaurant scene in my city. I’ve highlighted a few of my usual go-to choices at the following types of restaurants:

How To Improve Beauty Sleep

After a long day of work, school or taking care of the kids, all women have one desired luxury in common— a daily dose of beauty sleep. A time to rest your body, mind and skin. But in order for a good night’s rest to work wonders on your skin, it must be done right. New York City and New Jersey-based Dermatologist Dr. Rebecca Baxt provides tips to improve your skin when hitting the sack for a night of blissful sleep.

How To Freshen Your Breath Naturally

Although it can be embarrassing, I know I’m not the only one who suffers from bad breath. Despite routinely brushing and flossing, visiting the dentist for preventive care and avoiding the obvious causes of stinky breath such as smoking, chewing tobacco and consuming garlic-laced foods, I am still plagued with unsavory breath. Thankfully, for those of us who need a little extra help in this department, there are several home remedies to freshen breath naturally. Try one or more of the following tips and you’ll also reap the health benefits of these nutrient- and antioxidant-rich foods.

How To 'Feed' Your Hair

When your stomach is grumbling, you know it’s time to feed it. Your hair has similar warning signs – dry, lifeless, frizzy – when it is ready for nutrients. When your hair just won’t do what you want it to, it may be time to feed it!

The following recipes will give your hair the proper nutrients it’s been craving. Try a few and see which one works best—just plan to “feed” your hair right before washing it. Never let your hair go hungry again!

How To Build A Cold Weather Wardrobe

I live on the West Coast (aka, the land of rain and perpetually mild temperatures), but I spent a few days over the holidays in a much colder climate and picked up some tips on dressing for chillier temps. Here's a list of my top tips for outfitting yourself when you want to be warm and stylish at the same time:

Got Milk (and Honey)?

When I was a kid, my mom told me drinking milk promotes strong bones and healthy growth. Little did I know, milk applied topically also serves as an exfoliant for a fresh, youthful glow.  And honey, a natural humectant, attracts and retains moisture. So if you’re not allergic to either ingredient, try one or more of these DIY treatments for soft and silky smooth skin and hair.

How to Fix a Broken Eyeshadow

It’s always exciting when you buy a palette of this season’s hottest colors. And, when you inevitably drop one of the palettes, it’s equally depressing when it breaks or cracks. Before you break down in tears, know that there is a solution. All you’ll need is some rubbing alcohol, a spoon, tissue, a resealable plastic bag, and of course, that poor little broken eyeshadow.

Step 1: Place your broken shadow inside the plastic bag. Slide it all the way down into a bottom corner, and seal the bag.

DIY Foot Treatment

As winter begins to settle in, the harsh winds and cold temperatures start to really take a toll on my dry skin. The areas I find that suffer the most are my heels. Though they aren’t necessarily directly exposed to the elements, the constant lack of moisture causes them to callous and sometimes crack. I must admit though, I’m often guilty of not treating areas that I don’t find “important” like my feet. Since dry feet are unpleasant looking and can become painful, I was super excited when I found this at-home treatment.
