Go Dark

As summer sizzles down, Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week has warmed us back up with the latest hair color trends. Whether going for the Fashion Week’s wet hair look or wearing the classic beanie, realigning back into fall trends is no exception when it comes to color.

Owners Vicky Shen and Sue Ko of San Francisco’s trendy hair salon, Wicked, challenges fashionistas to transition over to the dark side this Fall season and share their expertise on achieving the perfect fall color.
Vicky and Sue say…

As seen on the runways, hair color is returning to the dark side this season. Remember to always choose a professional hair colorist to find a complimentary color that suits. Here are coloring tips for creating drama, depth, and dimension:

Sleek & Shiny Brunette
For the brunettes out there, fall is all about shine. Request a semi-permanent clear gloss treatment at the hair salon. The gloss seals the cuticles of each strand, giving hair a mirror-like reflection. The treatment lasts 4 to 6 weeks.

Copper Tones
For those with chocolate brown hair, try incorporating warm copper highlights from mid-shaft to the ends. This creates a gorgeous autumn look.

Balanced Blonde
For all of the blondes considering moving to the dark side, find the perfect balance between brown and blonde. Instead of choosing an all over dark color, which can be very harsh-looking, consider going 2-3 shades darker than the original hair color while leaving the front pieces and ends lighter.

Auburn in Autumn
For the redheads who are ready to switch out their summer strawberry locks for more drama this fall, adding depth and dimension is key. If going for a subtle change, try adding cinnamon strands to copper. For the more daring, why not go for the auburn red?

Follow these tips and explore a darker, trendier hair style this Fall.
